The Phase I effort achieved its objective of ascertaining and demonstrating the efficacy of light therapy using LEDs, alone and in conjunction with hyperbaric oxygen, in the treatment of wounds.

Doctors at the Medical College of Wisconsin have examined how LEDs can help heal oral mucositis (severe oral sores caused by chemotherapy and radiation), diabetic skin ulcers, and serious burns. The FDA pre-approved the procedure.

Wounds are slow to heal in a microgravity environment. Muscle and bone atrophy are well documented in astronauts, and various minor injuries have been reported not to heal until landing on Earth. LED therapy could keep what would be termed as minor wounds on Earth from becoming mission-catastrophic in space.
While under contract to NASA, QDI's LEDs have been utilized as part of a cancer treatment. In Special Operations, LED arrays could be used for improved wound healing and in the treatment of problem wounds, as well as speeding deconditioned personnel to full-duty performance.
LED usage has been approved by the Naval Special Warfare Command.
Russia to Ban All Incandescent Light Bulbs from 2014

Russia’s Economy Minister Thursday announced that Russia plans to ban the production and sale of incandescent light bulb from Jan. 1, 2014, in a move designed to reduce energy consumption, according to an article on Reuters.
Economy Minister Elvira Nabiullina told a news conference production and sale of incandescent bulbs with a power rating of more than 100 watts would be banned from Jan. 1, 2011, according to the report. And incandescent bulbs with a power rating of more than 75 watts will be banned from Jan. 1, 2013.
The ban mirrors European Union’s plan to phase out incandescent bulbs by 2012. European households are already switching to more efficient halogen, LED and fluorescent CFL lamps.
"As far as the second and third stages are concerned, the targets for 2013 and 2014, these will not be fixed rigidly in law," senior Kremlin economic aide Arkady Dvorkovich said at the same briefing.
